Friday's- Don't always start out great!

(No pictures taken, please use your imaginations.)

Today has been a LONG day. With my schedule, I have an hour of prep on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. So Wednesday and Friday I have a long afternoon without a break. To start my day out, I had a boy come in from a recess telling me that his shoe fell off onto the roof. After asking many questions about how it fell onto the roof, 15 feet above us, he recalled that he was kicking a ball on the blacktop and his shoe flew up. *Don't worry, kicking balls on the blacktop is not allowed. Luckily right before lunch, the custodian brought in his shoe so he could go to recess.

Fast forward until the middle of lunch recess. A short freak storm appeared. It was cold, the wind was out of control and then it started to snow. So the principal called it an inside recess in the middle of recess. She said she would unlock our doors. So I continued to eat my lunch.

When I walked through the office to go back, one of my kids was crying hysterically. I asked if he was ok, and kept walking. When I got to my class all of the kids were sitting outside. The assistant principal had half a pencil in his hand. Apparently boy in the office was trying to unlock the door with the pencil. Now the lead was stuck inside and my door wouldn't unlock even with the key.

Wow. What was I going to do? Luckily my friend had prep so I could have my kids read in her room. But shortly after I made all of the plans, the Custodian came to my rescue and my lock/door were fixed.

In the mean time of the kids being locked out, some girls in my class thought it would be funny to get paper towels and toilet paper wet, wad it up, and throw them on the walls and ceiling of the bathroom.

I love my job.

What a day.

I'm glad it's the weekend.

We picked a school...

Fall 2010 Bob will be attending University of Southern Nevada, Utah Campus. I am so proud of my amazing hubby! We have been so nervous as we have waited day in and day out for news from the schools. We actually have an interview set up over Spring Break in Denver. We already bought our airfare, so we might just go for fun!

We are thrilled to be staying in Utah, where I can teach at Vineyard Elementary while Bob attends school. Thanks to all of our family members who have kept us in their prayers!

A post for Grandpa Hales

I don't believe my grandparents check my blog, but that might have to change. About a month ago my Grandpa Blaine offered Bob and I his old recliner. It was his favorite chair, and he kept it in his bedroom. My Grandma didn't like it, because it didn't match their room. Also it is getting older and isn't very stable. My Grandpa sleeps in it sometimes, so my Grandma wanted a better chair for him. In the end, my Grandma won and Grandpa wanted it to go to a good home.

We forgot to pick it up but eventually we remembered and picked it up. Let me just tell you that as soon as we put the chair together, Bob was glued to it. He is in love with Grandpa's blue chair. Whether we are watching TV, a movie, eating dinner, or studying- Bob is in his chair. We have a future Grandpa Blaine in our house. haha.

Thanks Grandpa!!!!
Bob will be glued in this chair until the NCAA tournament is over. And because Bob finished his puzzle, we will now be eating dinner at the kitchen table!!! Wahoo!

Warmer Weather = Golfing

Warmer weather is upon us. Well it was, and then yesterday it got really cold again. I am looking forward to warm weather when it is consistent.

Last weekend we went to St. George to get away. We enjoyed shopping at the outlet mall, eating out, and golfing. Bob got a new outfit, and was pretty excited to wear it golfing. (So excited that he changed in the car.)
On the way home, Bob got his favorite treat ever, cherry dipped cone from Dairy Queen.

So You Think You Can Skate?

Last night was Skate Night for Vineyard Elementary. Everyone at the school, got in free at Classic Skating and it was the highlight of the week for my kids. Every day my kids would remind me about it, and ask me if I was going to be there. I decided to step it up and attend. I was given 3 choices by the kids, I could:

1. Skate (4 wheel style)
2. Rollerblade
3 Scooter

Most kids said they were pro's at using the scooter's and they were going to be skating. I had never owned a pair of skates (atleast that I can remember) but I was decent at rollerblading. To make life exciting I chose to skate.

Bob and I went to dinner at Wingnutz (Near the orem mall/movie theater.) Not a fan! And then showed up at 5:30- when entrance was free. There were already tons of kids there.

Needless to say, I saw lots of kids and it was a lot of fun. The skates were old and cheep, so they were hard to skate on, and I wasn't that good anyway. The last time I had been to Classic Skating must have been in the 6th grade. *Before the kids left school on Friday I told them that they couldn't come close to me while I was skating, because I would fall, and fall on them.

Best comment of the night. I was skating next to my student Kaylee and I had seen her brother (6th grade) "snowballing" with another girl from our school. (Where you hold hands for a song.) She told me, "He got that girl to be his girlfriend right after school today, so he would have a girl for the snowball." Haha.
This is how excited Bob was! We had a great time, saw a few fellow teachers, skated for an hour and came home to watch a movie.

Hair cuts, Dads, and Dessert

Today was a really fun day. Every Monday morning we have an assembly to talk about upcoming events, celebrate birthday's, review school rules, and to celebrate learning. My friend Shelly teaches 2nd grade in the morning and 3rd in the afternoon. (She kind of took over my split, sorry!) She challenged her kids last month to read a certain amount of minutes. If they reached their goal, she would cut her hair and donate it to locks of love.

Her class accomplished their goal, and it turns out our Principal cut hair for 25 years prior to her principal days. So during Monday Morning Meeting, Shelly had her hair cut. It was such a neat reward for her class, and motivated the rest of our students.

My kids all thought I should do it, but I just got my hair cut, and colored this weekend. So I wouldn't qualify anyway. (Pictures to come.)

A boy in my class turned around during reading and shouted, "Wow- I keep forgetting that you painted your hair. It just looks so different."

One girl in my class passed me a note during writing time telling me that I needed to go to the Nickle City, because it is "the best place ever, and that she love love love the new highlights."

After our assembly we had Dad's and Donuts with the whole 3rd grade. I missed out on it last year because I had a training. It was so much fun, and the kids loved it. In the last month I had some bully drama with a certain girl in my class. Her parents are divorced and she has been taking some of her anger out on other kids. Her Dad drove 400 miles to come to Dad's and Donuts this morning. You should have seen her face when he surprised her and showed up! It was the neatest thing. He later came into our class to see her stuff, because he had never been in any of his children's classes. It made me so sad, yet so happy to see him so impressed with his daughter.

And lastly, I made this dinner tonight after school. Bob loved it. It was pretty easy, and we had lots of leftovers! And for dessert I had one of these:and I am afraid I might be addicted. Too bad it's $2.50 for only 4. We might go broke! I dare you to try one!

St. Patrick's Day and some other things

I ordered a set of St. Patrick's Day crafts. In my "someday" world, I would like to create and make them myself, but right now all I can do is assemble. I loved this craft set, and it was really easy to put together. I ordered it from here.

I seriously put all 3 of these together in less than an hour. I might have spent a little more time, but I was in a hurry. I still had snowmen decorations up and my VT's were coming over tonight, so I had to get them up fast.

Enjoy!
Funny things that have happened in class lately:

Boy in my class leaves early one day to go pick up his grandparents from the airport. The next morning he tells me that his grandparents were coming back from Hong Kong, and his Grandpa got arrested in San Francisco on their way home. They waited at the airport for hours. And his Grandma was so mad, he had all of their souveniers in his luggage. (Apparently they flew on different flights.)

We have homework club the first Monday of the month. If you turn in all of your HW the last month you get to go to the gym and watch a movie before lunch. I told my kids they had to have their reading calendars in by Monday.

I got this note from my student.

dear teacher,
our dog chewed up the yhellow homwork and the reding calindar.
from my mom

*First of all I was sad that he forgot to remember to capitalize and use correct punctuation. We have been working on that all year, and working on writing letters the last few months with our pen pals.

I confronted him, and he said that he didn't write it. His mom did. I couldn't believe he would keep lying. Eventually I got it out of him. haha.

Happy March everyone!
